Singer Ester Nicholson performs at Spiritual Center

Ester Nicholson, celebrated vocalist formerly with Bette Midler and Rod Stewart as well as a gifted speaker and author of a book on spiritual healing, will present the workshop "Keys to Abundant Living" at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Spiritual Awareness Center in Visalia.

She will also be the guest speaker and musician at the Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

A former addict who has developed a powerful Soul Recovery program for healing, Nicholson comes from humble beginnings. The youngest child born to a Baptist minister father, she showed unusual talent in music as a child. But she was introduced to snorting cocaine and had a baby while still in her middle teens. By the early 1980s, she was a functional addict who eventually found her way to 12 Step meetings.

In the early 1990s, two years sober, Nicholson attended an unusual church service with a gifted spiritual director named Michael Bernard Beckwith. Beckwith later was featured in the spiritual movie "The Secret." Studying under Beckwith familiarized Nicholson with the metaphysical principles she would later turn into her Soul Recovery teaching and book.

Her singing career soared when she got a call from Bette Midler's manager asking if she would be interested in background singing on Bette's next tour.

Appearances on Oprah, Ellen and other shows followed. Then toward the end of the tour, Nicholson got a phone call from Rod Stewart asking if she wanted to do his next world tour.

Nicholson has spent the last seven years traveling the nation, giving keynote speeches, facilitating workshops and teaching a curriculum for the healing of dependence and dependence-related conditions.

Nicholson first spoke at the Spiritual Awareness Center in 2011, where she was widely acclaimed.

Tickets for her workshop are $35. Her morning worship service is free.

Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Spiritual Awareness Center, 117 S. Locust St., Visalia (one block south of Main), 624-2441.
